  1. Borough of Manhattan Community College

    • If you think you are not ready to attempt GED preparation classes because of the difficulty of the subject matter, Borough of Manhattan Community College offers pre-GED courses that concentrate on basic math and reading. The college also offers a GED preparation program with open enrollment. The pre-GED course is not required prior to admission into the GED preparation course.

    City College of New York

    • City College of New York offers GED preparation classes in both English and Spanish. The classes generally meet on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a lunch break half way through. GED classes are 10 weeks long for a total of 50 hours. Not only does the course cover all five GED focus areas but will also teach you test-taking techniques.

    Chinatown Manpower Project, Inc.

    • If you are a Chinese immigrant or refugee living in New York, the Chinatown Manpower Project, Inc. can offer you GED preparation skills. Chinatown Manpower is a non-profit organization that understands the complex issues you are facing trying to get your GED. The program offers math, English and reading. Programs are available for youth and adults.

    Friends of Island Academy

    • Friends of Island Academy offers pre-GED and GED preparation courses during weekday evenings to youth recently released from prison. This program offers additional assistance with problems such as transportation and court schedules.

    Hellenic American Neighborhood Act Committee

    • The Hellenic American Neighborhood Act Committee offers individualized instruction to anyone who wants to take the GED test. You can stay in the program as long as necessary to be ready to pass the GED. Classes usually meet weekday evenings.

    Union Settlement Association

    • You can take three levels of GED preparation at Union Settlement Association: GED literacy, pre-GED and GED. You will be assessed for your individual level and placed in the appropriate start group. This program also offers individualized help to control test anxiety.
