How to Raise Your Praxis II Elementary Education Scores

Many states require prospective educators to pass Praxis tests. Acceptable scores must be obtained before new teachers will be issued a teaching license. Scores requirements vary by state. Many prospective teachers struggle to obtain passing scores on the Praxis tests despite having acceptable college coursework grades. Elementary teachers usually take the Principles of Learning and Teaching test and the Elementary Content Knowledge test.

Instructions

    • 1

Order Praxis preparation materials. Test-takers can purchase study guides and practice tests from the Praxis web site. Other websites sell study guides; however, study guides directly from the company that produces the Praxis tests will likely provide better information.

    • 2

Take a complete practice test and check with an answer key. Use this information to determine what to study. Short assessments can also be found at Test Prep Review and Praxis Prep Info.

    • 3

Schedule study sessions. Start studying about a month before the schedule test date. Plan to study for one to two hours each day leading up to the test.

    • 4

Study with a friend. Reading and rereading material will not boost scores as much as working with a friend to discuss educational topics. Also, a friend may be able tutor subjects that may be causing the most stress. Often, the math section presents challenges. So, find a friend who can explain math concepts and strategies.

When the test day arrives, bring a working calculator and a watch. Pace yourself through the test. For example, if the test time limit equals two hours and the test has four sections, plan to spend 30 minutes on each section.
