How to Estimate Your PSAE Scores

The PSAE or PSAT test is a pre-test offered to high school students. It serves as a practice test for the Scholastic Aptitude Test or SAT. The SAT is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States. The scores from the pre-test help students determine areas where they are weak so they can study before taking the real SAT. The PSAE is also used to gauge whether students should earn scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Estimating your scores before receiving the official score involves simple mathematical processes that most people should be able to understand.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the number of questions you got wrong on each section and multiple it by 0.25. Write this number down with a heading above each number labeling the section. For example, if you missed eight questions in a section, multiply 8 by 0.25 to get 2.

    • 2

Subtract the result from the number of questions answered correctly each section. For example, if you got 12 questions right, you would subtract 2 from 12 to come up with 10.

    • 3

Print the conversion chart from the FCPS site and use it to convert the raw data from the last step into the estimated score for each section. Make sure it is within the range of 20 to 80 or you haven't done your earlier calculations properly.

    • 4

Add the results from each section to get your total score. Make sure your score isn't under 60 or over 240 as these are the minimum and maximum scores for the test.
