How to Easily Pass the GED Test

The GED, or General Educational Development, exam is taken by people who do not want to finish or could not complete high school. The test consists of six sections, including writing, mathematics and social studies, that tests a person's general knowledge. Proper preparation and testing skills are the most effective ways to successfully pass the GED test and gain entrance to a four-year or technical college.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a practice test. These tests can be found for free at several websites, including 4Tests, Steck Vaughn Adult Education and Test Prep Practice. These tests will take anywhere from 30 minutes to more than one hour to complete.

    • 2

Examine the scores. The sections that received the lowest scores should be given the most study time and attention.

    • 3

Devise a study plan. Set aside time every day to study for certain sections of the test. Remember to concentrate more on the sections that had the lowest scores on the practice test.

    • 4

Take a GED preparation class. Classes in your area can be located through the American Council on Education website and can help a student learn the basic knowledge required to pass the test.

    • 5

Prepare for the test online. There are several websites, including the American Council on Education website, that have sample questions and information about each specific test section. For instance, information can be found about calculators and formulas that may be used to complete possible questions in the math section.

    • 6

Take another practice test, if desired. This can help you decide whether you are ready for the test or require a little more time to study.

    • 7

Register for the test. The fees required for the test vary by state.
