How to Pass the GED English Test

The General Education Development, or GED, is a high school diploma equivalency test. It requires proficient knowledge in four subject areas: mathematics, English language arts, science, and social studies. Because it replaces a high school diploma earned after four years of course work, the test is rigorous.

Practice tests are available either online at several Web sites or in books that are widely available from area bookstores or libraries.

    • 2

Examine the questions you missed on the practice test. Decide which skills you need to work on, then work on them. If you need review on English grammar rules, there are several Web sites and books available for your use.

    • 3

If you are struggling with some of the English concepts or want to practice critical reading, hire a tutor. Check with your local school district or library for a list of English tutors. Many retired teachers tutor high school students and adults for free or relatively low fees.

Register for the test through a testing site. Your local high school's counseling department or a community college will likely host testing sessions for the GED.
