Getting certified in maintenance is required for most pool technician jobs, and having a certificate will give you an edge when you apply. There are different types of pool technician certificates, including pool maintenance and pool management. You can take these courses online at your leisure. They will teach you how to properly clean and maintain a pool and how to manage customers and employees.

      Visit the website for the Aquatic Training Institute. They offer online training for the Certified Pool Technician Online Certification Course.

      Click on the "How it Works" tab in the lower left corner of the page.

      Select your state in the drop-down menu the right to see whether the course is accepted in your state. If you see a picture of a girl giving a "thumbs up" sign, click on the button that says "Start Now."

      Read the course description. The class will teach you about your state's regulations, how to maintain pools, pool chemistry, filters, circulation systems, pH testing, spa care and aquatic facility management.

      Click "Add to Cart" to check out. The cost is around $330. Click "Checkout" and enter your credit card information.

      Wait to receive your books in the mail. Start taking your course online; it will take you about 16 hours to complete. You will have 30 days to finish the course.

      Take the 50-question test. Get a grade of 70 or higher and you pass. The company will automatically mail you your certificate and patch.
