How to Prep for OGT Testing

Passing the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) is a vital step for all graduating seniors in the state of Ohio. The test has five categories: reading, mathematics, science, social studies and writing. Students must prove their proficiency in each in order to graduate high school. To set students up for success, the Ohio Department of Education has online resources to help students prepare for the OGT. By taking advantage of these materials, any student can approach the OGT with confidence.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the OGT website (see Resource section), and take a practice test. Beginning the preparation process by taking a practice test will allow you to assess which areas you need to work on the most. Continue taking practice tests as you study to gauge your improvement.

    • 2

Review the released questions available on the OGT website. These questions are separated by subject so you can review the types of questions you will face in the areas you need the most work in.

    • 3

Complete the workbooks available through the Ohio Department of Education website. Workbooks are available in all five subjects and can help you hone the specific skills you will be tested on.

    • 4

Speak with your teachers. If you find there are concepts or skills coming up while you are studying that you continue to have problems with, then speak to your teachers or counselors about getting additional help in these areas.

    • 5

Keep up with the Ohio Department of Education's monthly "OGT Monthly Communication." This newsletter provides information about preparing for the OGT.
