Instructions

    • 1

Print a copy of the map without the state/country names on the regions that need to be studied. Try to fill in the missing information and compare the results to the original test. Practice until perfected.

    • 2

Cut a plain piece of print paper into fourths to produce card-shaped pieces. Write state names on one side of the square and state capitals on the other. Arrange the cards in a stack with state names pointing up. With the state name visible, attempt to recite the state's capital. Flip the card over to reveal the result. When the recited answers are incorrect, set cards aside in a pile and spend extra time studying these. Practice until proficient.

    • 3

Ask a teacher to conduct a quiz game called, "Around the World" with the class. The teacher uses the flash cards from step 2. The students sit at their desks and the student at seat one stands up next to the student in seat two. The teacher calls out the state and the student who correctly answers the respective capital moves on to challenge the student in seat three. If the student does not answer correctly, he sits down in the seat formerly occupied by the student who challenged him. The student who successfully makes it around the classroom is the winner and is ready to conquer the map test. This studying game improves recall speed, especially under pressure, which is important for combating the stress at test time.
