Choose the type of test to take. Testing the IQ of gifted people is the same as testing the IQ of average people. There are a variety of different tests to choose from and each offers a different process of measuring IQ. These include the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children and the Stanford Binet Intelligence Test.
Find a testing service. Professional testing services provide the most accurate results. Internet testing is often driven by an interest in turning a profit, and may not provide the most accurate results. Contact a local school counselor or community center organizer for information about professional testing services in your area.
Set up a testing time. Individualized intelligence tests must be administered by licensed psychologists and psychometricians. These tests take a great deal of time to administer and interpret, but also give accurate and clear results.
There is no need to prepare for the test, as it is designed to test aptitude not knowledge. Eat a hearty breakfast the morning of the test, and be sure to get a good night's sleep beforehand to ensure your brain will work at its optimal level.
Each test consists of sub-tests that are used to measure intelligence. Reading and writing are not required, as many are administered orally. Sub-tests measure everything from spatial skills, verbal ability, mathematical reasoning ability, vocabulary etc. The sub-tests are graded on a scale to determine the overall score.
