How to Take the CPA Exam in Wisconsin

Before any Wisconsin resident is legally able to provide tax accounting services as a certified public account he must take and pass the CPA exam issued by the State Board of Accountancy in Wisconsin. The test is given to college graduates that have met the minimum 150 credit hours of accounting requirements. Once you take the exam and it is graded you are given your Wisconsin accounting license; if you fail any part of the test you are required to retake the exam in an effort to attempt to obtain your Wisconsin CPA license.

      Complete an application to take the Wisconsin CPA exam by filling out the online application on the NASBA website. On the application you must provide your name, date of birth, Social Security Number, address and contact information.

      Pay your exam fee with your application by entering your credit card information. The fee, as of 2011, is $1035.50. This includes the application fee for four exam sections: auditing and attestation exam fee, business environment and concepts fee, financial accounting and reporting fee and the regulation fee. Confirm the information you provided is correct and submit your application.

      Contact the office of the Registrar at the university where you graduated and request an official copy of your transcripts is sent to:

      You must provide the registrar with your name, Social Security Number, date of birth and the year you graduated.

      Schedule a date and time for your exam when you receive your confirmation letter in the mail accepting your application, transcripts and fees. Dates, times and locations are available by logging into your NASBA account and choosing a place and time near your Wisconsin residence.
