TAKS measures student performance in reading, mathematics, writing, science and social science. Reading and mathematics are measured from the third grade, and other subjects are added later as a student progresses.
The TAKS may also be taken with accommodations for learning and other disabilities. In some cases, the TAKS-Modified is employed, which places fewer questions per page or rewrites the questions with more basic sentence structure. The TAKS-Alternate is intended for students for whom the traditional TAKS is inappropriate, and is based on teacher observation of students. Other accommodations are made for students struggling with language barriers.
The curriculum used in the TAKS test is available in both English and Spanish language versions in the form of TAKS Study Guides (see Resources).
