Exit-Level Objectives for the TAKS

The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test is a standardized assessment test administered by the Texas Education Agency to public school students in Texas. Students in third through 10th grade take the test. Eleventh-graders take an exit-level TAKS test and must obtain a satisfactory minimum score to graduate.
  1. Mathematics

    • Attributes of linear and non-linear functions, as well as linear equations and inequalities are some of the objectives of the mathematics section of the exit-level TAKS test. Measurement and problem solving are skills that are tested, as well as knowledge of percentages, probability and statistics. Geometric topics such as shapes, dimensions and spatial reasoning are also covered in the exam. As of 2010, the minimum score required to pass the mathematics portion of the TAKS was 24.

    Science

    • Students must demonstrate an understanding of natural science as well as living systems, organisms and the environment. Physics-related topics such as matter, motion and types of energy are also tested. As of 2010, the minimum score required to pass the science portion of the TAKS was 23.

    English/Language Arts

    • The English/language arts portion of the TAKS test consists of both multiple choice questions and an original composition. Objectives for this section include showing knowledge of literary elements, techniques and the ability to analyze and proofread literary selections. The composition section tests applied skills such as grammar usage, sentence structure and the ability to compose a topical essay. As of 2010, the minimum score required to pass the English/language arts portion of the TAKS was 36.

    Social Studies

    • The social studies section tests the combined knowledge of United States history and geography. Topics such as economic, social and political influences on events in United States history are covered. As of 2010, the minimum score required to pass the social studies portion of the TAKS was 18.
