How to Draw Dinosaur Books for Kids

Many young children love to learn about dinosaurs. They may even have a unit on them in school, piquing their interest in the topic. Expand your child's interest by making a dinosaur book with him, allowing him to participate in a fun art project shared between the two of you and share his love of dinosaurs. You don't need to be a great artist to help your child make the book; in fact, you can use lots of help to get your drawings just right.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase dinosaur stencils at your local dollar store or art store.

    • 2

Take your six sheets of paper and cut them in half lengthwise. Put two aside for the front and the back.

    • 3

Trace the dinosaurs with stencils, or draw them freehand if you feel comfortable. Although the stencils may be small enough to place several dinosaurs on one page, try to stick to a specific type of dinosaur for each page. Write the name of the dinosaur at the bottom of each page. If you wish, you can even write a fun fact about that type of dinosaur.

    • 4

Draw atmosphere, if you'd like, although it is not necessary. You can add trees, mountains or beaches, wherever you'd imagine dinosaurs to be.

    • 5

Reinforce your drawings with a black marker.

    • 6

Make a cover page for the dinosaur book. This may include your child's name, a few dinosaurs or anything else you'd like to add. Place contact paper on the front and back of this page.

    • 7

Place contact paper on the front and back of the other page you've set aside. You may wish to draw something on the back cover as well.

    • 8

Line up the pages so that they are all facing the same direction.

    • 9

Use a hole punch to make three holes along the left side of the book. A three-hole punch works best, but do not worry if you don't have one. You can still line the holes up and punch with a one-hole punch.

    • 10

Thread the ribbon or string through the three holes. Tie it off with a knot or ribbon.
