Learning Supplies for Kids

Although many learning supplies are specific to certain age groups or lessons, there are a variety of them that can be utilized by nearly any grade level and for any subject or lesson. Learning supplies, such as books, musical instruments, computers, notebook journals and flash cards can enhance and reinforce lessons, as well as help teachers explain difficult topics.
  1. Books

    • Books are one of the greatest learning supplies. Many types can be used in learning, including nonfiction books, instructional books, picture books and novels. Picture and instructional books might be used to directly teach a skill, such as memorizing colors or numbers. Novels or nonfiction books could be tools in reinforcing a lesson. Books are also often used for research.

    Musical Instruments

    • Musical instruments are valuable learning tools for a variety of reasons. They can be used to teach lessons about other cultures. Making musical instruments may reinforce lessons on the construction of musical instruments and how they work. This can also be a great way for students to learn how the sound is made. Learning to play musical instruments helps students strengthen their fine motor skills, as well as their thinking skills. Reading music is a necessity for learning to play musical instruments, as it requires students to learn and memorize symbols that represent different things.

    Computers

    • Computers offer a wide variety of programs and games for students to use in learning different lessons. They give students the availability of Internet research, which can be used to learn just about anything. Additionally, computers enable students to learn basic typing skills, writing skills and research skills.

    Notebook Journals

    • Notebook journals are an ideal learning supply that can be used at any grade level and with any topic or lesson. Notebook journals allow students to write or draw pictures about what they have learned or are learning. They can record their thoughts or opinions in them. Students can use their notebook journals to work on practice questions or problems. Notebook journals can be used to record observations in science or to hand-write definitions for reading, spelling or English. Despite the popularity of using computers for everything, hand-writing information is still a valuable method of memorizing material.

    Flash Cards

    • Flash cards are a useful learning tool to promote memorization. They can be used to memorize definitions of words, states, capitals and math problems, as well as a variety of facts and other information that need to be memorized. Flashcards allow students to separate the information into small pieces. For example, if a student has 20 words and definitions that need to be memorized, he can write one word and the corresponding definition on each flash card.
