List of Learning Centers for Special-Needs Kids

Special-needs learning centers can supplement primary education for a child with a mental or learning disability. These centers focus on cognitive skills by recognizing that not all children learn in the same fashion, providing a downsized student-to-teacher ratio so all students receive an appropriate amount of time and attention. These centers also slow the pace of lessons to accommodate different learning styles.
  1. California

    • California has one of the most extensive lists for special needs learning centers. Stockdale Learning Center in Bakersfield specializes in multisensory phonetic therapies. The Lindamood-Bell learning center in Berkeley provides one-on-one and small group instruction. Dyslexia Solutions of Northern California provides special training for kids with reading, writing and math learning difficulties, as well as ADHD. When choosing a learning center in a state with such an extensive list, focus in on what your child needs specifically. Some learning centers specialize in one area, such as dyslexia, while others provide one-on-one instruction for students with myriad learning disabilities or special needs.

    Texas

    • Texas has schools for one-on-one or small group instruction, including Lindamood-Bell and LearningRx Learning Centers in multiple cities. Several states have similar schools, which offer services to children with a broad range of learning disabilities. These schools can focus in on each individual student's cognitive skills because of the small student-to-teacher ratio.

    New York

    • New York has a more limited list of special-needs learning centers, but each school has a specific focus that may fit your child's individual needs. The Pioneer School in Bridgehampton helps students with dyslexia, The Study Shack on Long Island provides one-on-one tutoring for multiple types of special academic needs and EBL coaching is a program that offers one-on-one home tutoring and summer camp programs for children with learning disabilities. New York also has Lindamood-Bell learning centers in Long Island and New York City.
