Examples of Crafts for Nursery Rhymes for Preschoolers

Children usually enjoy learning nursery rhymes because of the story lines, characters and rhyming. The appealing rhymes keep them interested while they learn weekdays, months and pre-literacy skills. Along with these things, nursery rhymes can be brought to life with arts and crafts activities.
  1. Humpty Dumpty

    • Decorate eggs with glitter for a Humpty Dumpty project.

After reading this nursery rhyme, let students decorate plastic or hard boiled eggs. Students can decorate their eggs using glitter. Use a paintbrush to paint glue on to the egg. Then roll the egg around in a container that has glitter inside of it. Set the egg aside to allow it to dry.

    The House That Jack Built

    • Get some inspiration from Jack and create a house with toothpicks.

Using toothpicks or Popsicle sticks, students can make a house. They can glue them flat on to construction paper in the shape of a house. Then color the house and draw pictures of their pets and family to represent the house that they built.

    Star Light, Star Bright

    • Make a collage with a star and pictures from old magazines.

This nursery rhyme is about making a wish. Give students their own star to color, cut out and glue to construction paper. Then they can cut out pictures of things from old magazines and advertisements. Let them glue the pictures around the star to make a collage of things they would wish for.
