Preschoolers can make a chicken out of colored construction paper. Help preschoolers trace one footprint on a piece of yellow construction paper and cut it out to create the body of the chicken. Assist children with tracing two sets of hand prints: one on orange and one on red paper. Paste the footprint onto the hand prints. Add googly eyes and a beak cut from orange construction paper.
Help preschoolers create a chicken using yellow pompoms. Provide one large, one medium and two small pompoms. Glue a medium pompom on top of a large pompom to create the chicken's body and head. Glue small pompoms to the side of the chicken to serve as wings. Cut an orange pipe cleaner into fourths and attach two pieces with glue to create the chicken's legs. Glue on googly eyes as well as a beak and crest cut from orange felt material.
Children in preschool can create a chicken mask from basic household materials. Preschoolers can paint a paper plate with yellow paint. Once it dries, help preschoolers cut two eye holes into the plate. Create a beak from orange felt and show children how to glue it to the paper plate. Cut a small hole on both sides of the mask and string elastic through the holes. Tie each end to secure.
Preschoolers can create chicken thumbprints on art paper, stationary or homemade cards. Pour a yellow paint onto a paper plate or other shallow dish. Help the preschooler gently dip her thumb into the paint. Then help her firmly press her thumb onto the paper's surface to create a print. Repeat if completing a series of prints. Once the thumbprints are dry, encourage children to draw on the chicken's beak eyes, wings and feet with a black and an orange pen.
