Gather students into a large circle on the carpet in your classroom. Make sure students are sitting on their bottoms so that each student can see the presentation. Ask students to raise their hands if they have ever been on an airplane before. This question may cause students to want to share any stories they may have had while on the plane.
Ask students if they think it would be fun to work on an airplane every day. Then ask students if they know who works on a plane and what those people do. Allow for a few students to give their responses before continuing. Explain to students that besides the person that drives the plane, the pilot, there are other important people who work on an airplane. Tell students that they will be learning about the job of a flight attendant.
Display pictures of flight attendants one by one. While holding up each picture, explain to students exactly what the flight attendant is doing. For example, if you are holding up a picture of a flight attendant passing out beverages to passengers, tell students that flight attendants are the people who help get you food or drinks when flying on a plane.
Throw in a few key points to let students know why flight attendants are important. For example, without flight attendants we would be very hungry and thirsty while flying on the plane. Explain to students that flight attendants also help store your luggage on the plane, assist you in putting on your seatbelt and help out if there was ever an emergency on the plane.
Tell students that in order to become a flight attendant they need to finish school so that they get their high school diplomas.
