Choose a variety of granite squares from a local home improvement store, tile store or construction supplier. Include as many textures as possible.
Pour sand or dirt into the plastic bin.
Wedge the granite squares into the dirt to provide stability. You may need to wet the dirt slightly. The granite should be flat and difficult to move.
Instruct the children to describe the textures of granite. They can use their hands or feet.
Record the granite textures with the children by placing the white paper over each square and lightly shading to form an imprint with the pencil or crayon.
