How to Make a Dot to Dot Game

Dot to dot pictures and games are simple to make, even for someone who can't draw. They are a useful tool in teaching children their number or letter order, as well as pencil hold and hand-eye coordination. For very young children who do not know their letters or numbers yet, leave them off. They can simply follow more closely spaced dots to create a picture.

Instructions

  1. Draw Your Own

    • 1

Draw a simple picture with a basic outline on a piece of paper lightly, with no intersecting lines.

    • 2

Draw dots along the picture with the pen or marker. If you are doing letters or numbers telling which dot to go to next, place the dots further apart. If not, make the dots closer together.

    • 3

Erase the pencil marks from your drawing.

    • 4

Write your letters or numbers around your pictures, if you are choosing to do them.

    Trace a Picture

    • 5

Find a picture that you like and want to use as a dot to dot picture. Lay a piece of tracing paper on top.

    • 6

Draw dots around the outline of the picture using your marker or pen. There is no need to draw the entire outline with pencil; simply place your dots.

    • 7

Remove the tracing paper and label the dots with numbers or letters.
