How to Introduce Alphabet Sounds to Preschoolers

Children who get an early start learning the letters and sounds of the alphabet generally have a learning advantage compared to those who do not. Letters and letter combinations make up the sounds of spoken language. By learning these sounds and combinations early, children develop vital skills better preparing them to learn to read. Many learning programs, such as Montessori education, suggest introducing sounds phonetically rather than in alphabetical order. Many educators also suggest to begin familiarizing the child with the first letter from their own name and its associated sound. There are several helpful tools to help pre-schoolers learn alphabet sounds.
