Bulletin Board Ideas for Early Head Start

Colorful bulletin boards attract the eye and can make a classroom feel warm and inviting. Whenever possible, involve your students in decorating your classroom bulletin boards with pictures, drawings and writings. Change bulletin boards often to keep students interested in the classroom decor and to stay current with what is happening in the classroom.
  1. Meet Your Classmates

    • Create a bulletin board for the beginning of the year that lets your new Head Start students meet their classmates. On the first day of school, take a picture of each one of your students. Give each student a piece of paper and a crayon, and help her write her first name on the piece of paper. Hang the pictures on the bulletin board along with the names over a colorful background with the words "Meet The Class" in large bright letters. Add your own picture and name to the board as well.

    Fall Fun

    • Create a fall bulletin board display that celebrates your students' favorite fall activities. Cut a tree shape out of brown bulletin board paper and attach it to the bulletin board. Cut out leaves from yellow, orange and red construction paper and give a leaf to each student. Ask your students to choose their favorite fall activity. Help them write the activity on their leaf. Give students glitter pens and markers to decorate their leaves, then attach them to the tree.

    Words We Know

    • Make a bulletin board that documents the new words your students are learning. On the top of your bulletin board, attach the words "Words We Know" over blue bulletin board paper. Cut cloud shapes from white paper and give a cloud to each student. Help students write one word they have learned on the cloud, then attach it to the bulletin board.

    My Favorite Things

    • Use your bulletin board to highlight your special students. Each week, dedicate the bulletin board to one student. Ask the student to draw a picture of herself to hang on the board. In addition, ask the student about her favorite things, such as favorite foods, cartoon, book and animal. Place headings on your bulletin board for each of these areas and let your student draw pictures of their favorite things to hang on the board.
