Bulletin Board Ideas for Pre-K

Bulletin boards are a good way to bring excitement to your pre-kindergarten classroom and spark interest in classroom activities in young children. As such, you can use your bulletin boards to introduce the subjects your students will be studying, as well as fun activities that are planned. Additionally, you can use the boards to display each student's photo to help create a welcoming classroom environment.
  1. Classroom Learning Objectives

    • Use cartoons or popular book characters to illustrate the learning objectives for the year. Paste images of your students' favorite characters depicting learning to write numbers and letters, for example. Alternately, you may also decorate your board with a bullet list of what you expect your students to learn in the upcoming year, including counting and writing their names. You can even refer to the list before each lesson to remind students that they are meeting their learning goals.

    Activity Board

    • Give your pre-K students a reminder of what they can look forward to in the classroom with an activity bulletin board. Decorate the board with names and illustrations of the activities. If you are taking a field trip to the zoo, for example, paste animals on the board with the label "Zoo Trip." Take a photo of your students performing each activity and add it to the activity board after you've finished as a reminder of all of the fun things you have done for the year.

    "Who Am I?" Board

    • Make your students feel included in their classroom with a board that displays each of their photos and handprints. At the beginning of the year, take a photo of each student and attach it to construction paper to display on the bulletin board.

Have each student create a paint handprint under her photo and write her name. You can also allow students to use their favorite colors to make their handprints and write their names. For an added touch, have students attach images of their favorite foods underneath their photos.

    Rule Board

    • Many pre-K classrooms will need a board of rules that teachers can reference throughout the year. At the beginning of each year, have students list what they think some classroom rules should be. They may say things like "be quiet" or "don't run inside," for example. Add each rule to the rule board and add your own, as well. Decorate the rule board with fun colors and images depicting each rule.
