About Me Bulletin Board Ideas for Preschoolers

The preschool years are full of new and exciting milestones for students. As students develop an awareness of themselves and others, they enjoy hearing stories about themselves and sharing their experiences with friends. Preschoolers may play alone or with friends and they like to get approval from adults. Encourage your preschoolers' desire to share things about their lives with a classroom "About Me" bulletin board.
  1. Student of the Week

    • Select one preschooler a week to be the "About Me" student of the week. Invite students to bring in five to 10 pictures to share with the class. Pictures may include preschoolers playing at the park, hanging out with their pets, playing a sport or taking a vacation with their family. Encourage parents to write a sentence on the back of the pictures describing who or what is happening in the pictures. Set aside time on the first day of each week for preschoolers to share their pictures. Feature each student on an "About Me" bulletin board.

    Self-Portraits

    • Invite preschoolers to draw or paint a self-portrait on large sheets of paper. Encourage students to make their eye and hair color match their own and add such details as freckles, glasses or big smiling happy faces. Allow students to glue yarn on their pictures to give hair a textured look. Hang portraits on an "About Me" bulletin board with a statement about each preschooler written below. Statements might read, "Jordan's favorite food is pizza," or "Brennan loves trains."

    My Favorite Things Collages

    • Pass out sheets of construction paper to students. Tell students they are going to make a collage of pictures that tells about their favorite things. Provide magazines for students to tear out pictures to glue on their poster. Students may find pictures of favorite foods, animals, colors, sports, games or activities. Invite preschoolers to share their collages before hanging on an "About Me" bulletin board.

    Life-Size Posters

    • Read and discuss "Today I Feel Silly: And Other Moods That Make My Day" by Jamie Lee Curtis. Provide sheets of white butcher paper for preschoolers. Have preschoolers lay down on the butcher paper while a classmate traces their outlines on the paper. Help preschoolers cut out their life-size posters. Invite students to paint or color their posters in crazy, silly or fun ways. When they are done, write down phrases on each poster's arms and legs that tell about the preschooler's moods, such as "When I'm silly I like to_______" or "When I'm sad I _______." Hang posters on an "About Me" bulletin board wall.
