How to Make a Waterbottle Rocket

When you are teaching kids about chemical reactions, you can provide a better learning experience for the kids by showing them how powerful a chemical reaction can be, instead of just reading to them about it. For example, by combining an acid with a base, you can create a waterbottle rocket that can shoot a cork up into the air. This will make kids more excited about learning and will demonstrate a concept that can be difficult to explain.

Place a funnel into the opening of a plastic water bottle.

    • 3

Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the bottle through the funnel. Tap the funnel to ensure that all of the baking soda entered the bottle.

    • 4

Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the bottle through the funnel. Tightly and quickly plug the opening of the bottle. Push the cork deeply into the bottle.
