How to Troubleshoot Reader Rabbit for Kindergarten

Reader Rabbit interactive software, developed and marketed by the Learning Company, helps children from prekindergarten to second-grade level learn basic language and math through the use of a series of games and activities. The program comes as a CD-ROM that the user runs on his computer and features a range of characters that inhabit a place called "Balloon Town." If you're having trouble with your Kindergarten installation, follow these steps for troubleshooting.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your system to ensure that it meets the minimum system of your version of Reader Rabbit Kindergarten software. You'll typically need to be running a minimum of Windows 95/98 with 32 MB of RAM and 100 MB of free disk space. If you don't have adequate space, consider deleting any unnecessary data or removing unused programs from your system prior to installation.

Check that you are running the correct version of the software. If you're running the 32-bit version with 16-bit soundcards, you are likely to experience problems. If this happens, insert your Reader Rabbit disk, click on "Computer" from the "Start" menu and then right-click on the disk icon and select "Open." Find the "Green Backpack" icon for RRK.EXE and drag it to the desktop. This will create a shortcut to the 16-bit version of the software.

Reinstall the program if you're still experiencing problems. Go to "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu and click on "Programs." Select "Uninstall a Program" from the menu presented and locate the Rabbit Reader program to uninstall. Insert the original disk and follow the instructions to carry out a fresh install.
