File Folder Games for Learning Centers for Kindergarten

File folder games make good activities for kindergarten learning centers. File folder games are games mounted into the inside flaps of a folder. When opened, the folder becomes an activity or a game in a certain curriculum. Many kindergarten educators can easily create file folder games with programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Word. However, some companies make laminated file folders that an educator can purchase.
  1. Sunflower Sight Words

    • This is a great activity for two and three letter word recognition. Print out a black a white outline of a sunflower. Make sure the middle is without pattern, so that words can be written inside the middle part. Make 16 copies of the outline and cut them out. Use a black sharpie and write words in the center of eight of the flowers. Words can include "dog," "cat," and "boy." Use clip art and print out small pictures of the eight words you chose for the sunflowers. Glue the pictures in the middle of the other eight sunflowers. Children must match the corresponding word with the correct picture.

    Acorn Math

    • Acorn Math is a great little activity for children learning very early addition or subtraction. Use a leaf outline (black and white) and print out several leaves. On each leaf, write math problems such as 1+1 or 0+1. Color the leaves a light green color, so the children can still see the math problems. Print out a lot of small acorns from clip art. Label each acorn with an answer to the problems such as 2 and 1. The children will put the right acorn number with the right problem.

    Space Rhymes

    • Space Rhymes is a good phonetic activity for children. Mount the file folder with four large circles, two on each side. The circles should be labeled "moon," "star," "sun," and "ring." Find a rocket outline from clip art ( black and white), and write words that rhyme with the four circle words on the rockets. Color the rockets in different colors, but do not color them by the way they rhyme. Children will match the rhyming words in this activity. Each circle might have four rhyming rockets at the end of the activity.

    Fruits and Vegetables

    • This activity is to classify which foods are fruits and which foods are vegetables. This requires a folder with pockets. Print out two basket outlines and mount each basket picture on each folder in the pocket. Print out an even number of fruits and vegetables to use in this activity. Either write the word on the fruit or vegetable or the letter in which it starts. The children will put the foods into the right "containers." Use at least 10 fruits and vegetables.
