Kindergarten Bulletin Board Ideas on Telephone Numbers & Addresses

Kindergarteners are typically stimulated by bright colors and a variety of shapes. Include colors and shapes on a classroom bulletin board to help the children learn their phone numbers and addresses. The bulletin board can also be useful in teaching the history of telephone technology and housing.
  1. Border

    • Create a colorful and fun border for a kindergarten bulletin board. Use red and blue triangles resembling envelopes to display addresses. Other ideas for borders include: pictures of telephones throughout history; photos showing rows of houses, especially if you ask students to bring in pictures of their own houses; or pictures of each child connected with phone lines. Alternatively, use gift wrap or wallpaper as a border.

    Background

    • Utilize various items for the background of the bulletin board, such as fabric, colored construction paper or newspapers. Another option is to cut open brown bags and use them for the background. Be creative with butcher paper backgrounds by letting children paint numbers or cover it with colorful netting or plastic.

    Addresses

    • Teach kindergartners their address by having them practice writing it on worksheets or craft projects. For example, have the children draw their house or a mailbox and write their address below the drawing. Give children an envelope or postcard to practice writing their address. Display their crafts on an address bulletin board. Another idea is to divide the class into groups and have them paint a house. Display the houses below the words, "I know my address." Ask children to recite their address, and when they know it, place their picture on one of the houses.

    Phone Numbers

    • Place a large telephone in the center of the bulletin board with the school's phone number, including area code. Explain how phone numbers are put together and ask the children if they know their phone number. When a kindergartener recites his phone number, allow him to place a small phone with his name on it on the bulletin board. Give the children pictures of a different types of telephones, such as a cell, cordless or desk phones, and allow them to paint or color and cut them out. Have them write their phone numbers on the back and display their artwork on the board.
