Bulletin boards may display subjects being taught in the classroom. A class literacy board would show pictures of the class's favorite book titles and pictures of the characters. Another reading bulletin board may depict an animal reading a book underneath a tree with paper cutout leaves. A math bulletin board would display paper clocks made by all the children. A science bulletin board would display a large thermometer and a graph with the daily outdoor temperature readings by the students.
The changing of the seasons should be reflected in a class bulletin board. Seasonal pictures, holidays and events are easily displayed with simple paper cut-outs. An Autumn bulletin board would have a tree with golden leaves and red apples. A Winter bulletin board would have paper snowflakes and snowman. Spring would depict sprouting seeds and green plants. Pumpkins and witches depict the Halloween holiday, while a 100th day of school celebration would have plastic bags filled with 100 items by students on the bulletin board.
Students need motivational sayings on the bulletin board to increase self-esteem. A "Keys to Success" bulletin board would have multicolored paper keys with students' ideas for success. You would help students write what their ideas are for success. "Off to a Clean Start," is a motivational board for the beginning of the school year. Include bubbles with the names of all the children, and an animal such as an elephant showering with bubbles everywhere.
Rules should be clearly placed on bulletin boards for students to see. Classroom rules such as good manners or playground rules should be displayed in a positive manner. Write different good manners words, such as "Thank You," on paper apples inside a basket. Post a large green worm nearby in a "Bushel of Good Manners" bulletin board. A bulletin board for listening while others are speaking would utilize colorful paper ears on a child's smiling face for a "Listening Ears" board.
