Grants for Single Parents to Send Kids to Private School

Every parent wants the best for his or her child. One of the biggest challenges that single parents face is affording a quality education for their children. Private schools sometimes offer academic benefits that public schools cannot provide, such as lower teacher-to-student ratios and higher test scores. There are a number of grant programs available that assist single parents in making private school more affordable and their dreams of a better education for their child to come true.
  1. Veterans Administration Grants

    • The United States Veterans Administration provides grant programs to help offset the cost of education for the children and spouses of enlisted personnel who have been killed in the line of duty or who died as a result of a service-related disability. Children and spouses of veterans who meet these qualifications can obtain up to 45 months worth of financial assistance to help cover the costs of education. Typically, this benefit is designed for use towards attending a university or college for students aged 18 to 26, however, these grants can be used towards the cost of private schooling for children under the age of 18 with approval. Interested applicants must apply for funding directly through their local office of Veterans Affairs to see if they qualify.

    Children's Scholarship Fund

    • The Children's Scholarship Fund helps low-income families in cities throughout the United States afford private school education for their children. The Children's Scholarship Fund issues grants to enable parents who meet qualifying economic criteria to choose the school that they wish for their child to attend. The educational grants issued provide funding for the child to attend the private school of their choice for a period of up to four years. In order to qualify for grant funding through the program, parents must agree to pay a part of the tuition (which is normally based on income) themselves. The Children's Scholarship Fund usually provides funding for education for grades Kindergarten through 8th; however, in approved circumstances, funds may be provided for high school programs as well. Interested applicants must apply for grant funding directly through the Children's Scholarship Fund to see if they meet eligible economic criteria.
