Las Vegas Catholic Schools

Choosing a Catholic school for your children can be based on many factors. Some parents choose the Catholic school option because of religious beliefs, while other choose based on high academic standards, a safer school environment, the self-discipline taught and the commitment to excellence. Many Catholic schools encourage greater family input and involvement, which may lead to higher attendance rates and lower dropout rates. (See Reference 1.) Las Vegas, Nevada has seven Catholic elementary schools and one Catholic high school. (See Reference 2.)
  1. Bishop Gorman High School

    • Founded in 1954, Bishop Gorman High School is the only Catholic high school in southern Nevada. A college preparatory school boasts a 100 percent graduation rate, and 96 percent of students continue on to college. BGHS is home of the Gaels and has an athletic history that includes more than 65 state championships. Students have the opportunity to participate in many extracurricular activities, with more than 40 percent of all enrolled students taking part in a school organization or sport. Fine arts classes are offered, as are seasonal plays, musicals, concerts and performances. (See Reference 3.) Tuition rates for the 2011-2012 school year range from $10,400 for Catholic parish members to $11,800 for non-parish members. Scholarships and tuition assistance are available.

    St. Anne Catholic School

    • Established in 1954 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, St. Anne Catholic School works to give students in Kindergarten through the eighth grade the best Catholic education. Rich in tradition and community spirit, students at St. Anne Catholic School are given the opportunity to learn leadership skills through activities such as student council, soccer, cross-country, basketball, volleyball, girl scouts and tennis. The core curriculum includes religion, mathematics, social studies, language arts, computer science, music, physical education, health, art and science. As of 2010, tuition rates vary depending on the number of children in the school and range from $3,520 for a single child to $6,160 for three or more students.

    St. Viator School

    • Serving students in Kindergarten through grade eight, the St. Viator School provides a curriculum based on physical and academic skills combined with knowledge, dedication and attitude. These areas allow students to learn and act with self-confidence and esteem. Special attention is paid to the unique talents, interests and abilities of each student to develop a sense of individuality and interdependence. Students can participate in extracurricular activities including art club, chess club, jump-rope club, several book clubs, yearbook, forensics, cheerleading, cross-country, soccer, swimming, tennis, track-and-field and many other activities. Tuition rates as of the 2010-2011 school year range from $4,200 for one child of a St. Viator Parish member to $6,200 for one child of a non-parish member. Discounts are given for additional students.

    St. Christopher Catholic School

    • Founded in 1964, St. Christopher Catholic School bases education on the objectives taught in "Teaching for the 21st Century," which was adopted by the Department of Education of the Diocese of Las Vegas. Core curriculum includes religion, language arts, science, mathematics, social studies, art, physical education, Spanish, music and computer technology. St. Christopher students can participate in a variety of extracurricular activities to gain leadership and team-building experience, which include student council, altar servers, geography bee, science fair, spelling bee, cheerleading, swimming, soccer, basketball, volleyball, track-and-field, cross-country, softball and table tennis. As of 2010, tuition ranges from $3,495 for a student of a contributing parishioner to $4,320 for non-parishioner students. Discounts are given for additional students.
