With over 16,000 students and 87 private schools and academies as of 2011, Las Vegas offers numerous options for students who wish to avoid public schooling. These private schools include religious, musical, technical and special needs schools. Whereas the ratio of teachers to students in the public school system is 17:1, the ratio in private schools is 15:1, making private options more desirable for some.
Las Vegas contains 16 colleges, community colleges and universities and 24 percent of the population in the city graduate from a college or university, as of 2011. Kaplan College, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas College and Carrington College are all located in Las Vegas. In addition, Las Vegas community college has numerous locations throughout the city.
Las Vegas has numerous technical education institutions, which provide training in medical professions, massage therapy, computer technology, culinary art and digital art. Academy of the Healing Arts, Anthem Institute, High-Tech Institute and Nevada School of Massage Therapy are all examples of technical college opportunities in the city.
