Community colleges or universities are permitted to establish their own regulations and guidelines for acceptance. The guidance counselor will be able to provide information about admission requirements. Depending upon the college's course offerings for high school students, you may be able to take classes online. Transportation to the college is the responsibility of the student.
Download the request admission forms from the college. Parental and school consent is required to attend both online or traditional classroom courses. The high school principal will review the student's grades, maturity and behavior. After securing school and parental permission, mail the forms back to the college registrar's office. An enrollment fee may be charged but is typically waved for high school students. A transcript of your high school grades is also commonly required for admission into a PSO program. You may be assigned a PSO counselor or on-campus liaison to guide you while taking courses on the campus.
Browse the college course catalog for classes that match your interests. Both the high school guidance counselor and college adviser can offer assistance in selecting courses. Typically, only entry-level courses are available to high school students. Advanced courses for merit high school students may require additional permission, a specified grade point average in the topic area or passing of a competency examination. High school students typically follow the same registration process as adult learners. A username and password is issued for the purpose of registering either online or in person at the college. College grades are issued on a semester or quarterly basis and are mailed to the student's home address. High school students are held to the same academic grading scale as typical college students.
