The Oklahoma City School District has several alternative schools available for its students. Emerson Alternative High School has a head start program to support teen mothers with young children, with Pathways Middle College High School offers alternative education on the campus of Oklahoma City Community College. Justice Alma Wilson Seeworth Academy is a charter school that serves grades 3-12, providing programs that allow students to progress at their own rates as well as parent education and family mediation.
The Putnam City School District maintains the Putnam City Academy for its alternative students. It offers parenting classes for teen parents and has an onsite nursery. It also features a "baby store" where young parents can purchase needed supplies for their babies with credits they earn through attendance, grades, and good behavior. Some classes have students participating in community service.
South of Oklahoma City, the Moore School District runs VISTA High School, as well as programs for 6th-8th graders in need of alternative education. It also runs the VISTA MAST program, which includes individual and family counseling for students in grades 7-12 who've been involved with juvenile authorities or suspended on a long-term basis. A night school is offered for students who've dropped out and wish to return and earn their diplomas.
Other Oklahoma City area school districts offer their own alternative education programs. The El Reno Academy, part of the El Reno School District, is west of the city and serves students in grades 6 through 12. There are typically 80 to 90 students enrolled, and they may take some classes at El Reno High School or at a career tech school. The Edmond School District, north of Oklahoma City, maintains Boulevard Academy, which has offerings that include education and counseling for Indian students.
