How to Use the Log Button on a Calculator

The log button is a button found on scientific and graphing calculators. Log is short for "logarithm." On calculators, the log button finds the base 10 logarithm of any given number. This means you are finding the number by which you must raise 10 to equal the number given in your problem. If your calculator has a second function capability on the same button, you can use the log button to find the antilog of a number. The antilog is 10 to the power of the number in your problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "CE/C" button to clear any previous calculations from the calculator.

    • 2

Use the number keys to type in the number of which you are trying to find the log, and then press the "Log" button immediately after that. The base 10 log of the number you typed will appear.

    • 3

Press the "CE/C" button to clear the calculation. To find the antilog of a number, type in the number again. Press the "2nd" or "Shift" button on your calculator, then press "Log." The antilog of the number will appear. The antilog is 10 to the x power, where x is the number you are entering.
