How to Use a Calculator to Multiply an Equal By Equals

Multiplying a number by its equal is only one of the many mathematical functions a calculator can perform. A basic calculator will add, subtract, multiply, divide, and perform percentage calculations. Additionally, most basic calculators have memory functions that allow you to add or subtract numbers that you enter using the memory buttons. You can multiply a number by an equal number to obtain the square of that number. You may then multiply again by the original number, and repeat the process several times up to the maximum number display of your calculator.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the calculator power. Usually, there is a button labeled "on." This button may be combined with the "clear" button.

    • 2

Enter the number you want to multiply by itself. For example, enter the number 11. Your selection should now show on the calculator display.

    • 3

Push the "multiplication" button. This button looks like an "X." The number "11" should still show on the calculator display.

    • 4

Push the equals button. This will multiply 11 by itself, and "121" should now show on the calculator display.

    • 5

Push the equals button again to multiply the displayed number by the original number. If you do this with the product of "121," the number "1331" should show on the calculator display. This is the product of 121 and 11. You may keep pushing the equals button to multiply each product by the original number until your calculator display is full.
