How to Factor Calculator Steps

A prime number is a number that can be divided only by one and itself. Every number other than prime numbers can be factored into smaller numbers. This process is called factoring primes. If a group of numbers is given, each of the numbers in the group can be factored into primes. The primes of each of the numbers can then be analyzed to find the common factors. These factors are then multiplied to find the GCF, or greatest common factor, between the numbers. This process can be streamlined by using an online factor calculator.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to a GCF calculator, such as the one at Math Videos Online.

    • 2

Enter the numbers into the "First Number," "Second Number" and "Third Number" boxes. If there are only two numbers, leave the third box blank.

    • 3

Press "Find GCF." The result will appear in the box next to the button.
