Write the number down so that you can visually see it in front of you. Visually seeing the numbers in front of you allows your mind to create a mental image. This will aid in helping you remember the numbers and their order.
Read through the number a few times both in your head and out loud to help you begin to commit the number to memory.
Break the number into smaller numbers. For example, if the number is 68574626, break down the number into smaller numbers, such as 68 57 46 26. Trying to remember four separate numbers is much easier to do than remembering eight numbers all at once.
Read the smaller numbers out loud numerous times. This will allow you to create a rhythm with the numbers that makes it easier to remember.
Substitute the numbers for letters, similar to what you would find on a telephone. For example. A, B or C = 1, D, E or F = 2, etc. Remembering a specific word is much easier to remember than a group of numbers. It also allows you to instantly transfer the word back into the group of numbers.
Think of a journey in your head. It could be a journey as simple as getting out of bed in the morning and going downstairs for your breakfast.
Break down the journey into specific steps, such as getting out of bed, brushing your teeth and walking down the stairs.
Assign a specific number for each of the steps. For example, if the number is 102126894, you could associate "10" as the time you get up every day. The number "2" could be the number of times you brush your teeth and "12" could be the number of steps you take down the stairs.
Repeat this journey in your head numerous times with the numbers related to each step. Play out the journey in your head to remember the numbers and their order in the sequence.
Create an imaginary story in your head with a variety of characters and events.
Assign a number to each of the characters based on their physical appearance. For example, if the number is 2145310, you could create a story about a two-headed dragon who fights 14 knights for 53 hours, and only ten of the knights survive.
Repeatedly play the story out in your head until you know all of the parts and which numbers are assigned to each character and event. Remember the story and its order whenever you wish to recall the number.
