Attend a home-school event. Home-school curriculum fairs and conferences offer current and prospective home-school parents the opportunity to collaborate and share ideas, as well as the chance to purchase new or used curriculum. Many organized home-school co-op groups also hold regular events and meetings that offer the chance to learn more about home schooling.
Check out the home-school laws in your state. Home-school laws vary from state to state. Some states require instructors to hold a high school diploma, while others simply ask that home schools report how many days schoolwork is taught. You can view your state's home-school policies on the Home School Legal Defense Association's Web site or through a local home-school group.
Visit a home school in session. Contact a friend who home-schools or a local home-school group to ask if you can observe a day in the life of a home school. Many parents are more than willing to let you observe their classroom activities to give you a better understanding of how a home school functions.
