How to Learn More About Sororities

Choosing a sorority is an important decision in college. You will spend a great deal of time with this group of women, who will dictate your social calendar during your collegiate years. The social sorority you choose to join should be representative of your personality and philanthropic desires. Therefore, it is important to learn more about possible sorority choices through a variety of research processes.

      Speak to the Greek Advisor on your school's campus. Set up a meeting with her and obtain a list of social sororities your school has to offer.

      Review the national websites of the sororities your school has to offer. Read about each organization's goals and philanthropic efforts. Access the websites of the chapter of that sorority at your school. These should detail how that chapter achieves the goals and ideals set forth by its national governing organization. This also shows you events the local sorority plans to host, and how active that specific chapter is.

      Speak to alumna of the various chapters at your campus. You can obtain a list from the chapters' alumnae officer. Contact these graduates in a respectful manner and ask them to tell you about their experiences while a member of that sorority.

      Attend a social or philanthropic event hosted by each sorority at your school. Obtain the information regarding the event from the local chapter's website or a member of the organization. Be sure to check that the event is an open one, and not limited to current members and alumna. Observing an event gives you an idea of the level of organization within the sorority.It also allows you to meet a variety of women currently in the organization.
