Create a schedule. It can be easy to let things slide when trying to school your children in the comfort of your own home. Sticking to a schedule will help you commit to your child's education. If you live in Sacramento, you can join the Homeschool Association of California, (see link below) which will send you a bi-monthly newsletter that will help you set up and stick to a school schedule.
Join a group of other homeschooling parents. Nothing keeps you more accountable than other homeschooling parents. You can find other Sacramento homeschoolers by going to the Sacramento Homeschool Meetup Group's online page (see link below).
Know your legal rights as they pertain to the state of California. You should do this before you even begin homeschooling your child, as it is very important that your child is on track to meet the state's requirements for educational progress.
Look for educational opportunities outside the home. Sacramento offers a wealth of historical and government resources, including tours of the capital building, for your child to learn from, not to mention museums and parks.
