Decide if you want to home school your child on your own by engaging the services of a tutor who can visit your home and impart the training or send your child to the home of another parent to be trained.
Select a written curriculum that comprises books, workbooks and computer learning to home school your child. The Texas state government expects your home school curriculum to include reading, spelling, grammar and mathematics study material, as well as a course in good citizenship. Depending upon the grade level of your child, you should include curriculum material specific to his grade-level that covers foreign languages, social studies, language arts, science, software and computer training.
Home school your child by following the state-mandated curriculum. Purchase the curriculum material from the Texas Education Agency’s Publications office and customize it according to your child’s requirements. Join a local support group to help you get started with home schooling. Design your own curriculum from the numerous other educational and home schooling resources available. Refer to curriculum from external sources such as the Center for Essential Education, Homeschool-life.com and the Razzle Dazzle Learning Company.
Set weekly assignments for your child to complete to enable him to stay on track with his studies from one week to another. If your child is quite young, write the assignments for him to complete every day and check off the tasks when he completes them. If your child is older, create a 40-week assignment schedule; ask him to refer to the schedule and complete it on a weekly basis.
