Choose a 7th-grade curriculum. You can call your local public school and ask which textbooks it is using so that your child stays on track with his peers. You can also order 7th-grade textbooks online or through a catalog, which will contain the information your child needs to learn during the course of the year.
Create a schedule for your child. All states require you to homeschool your child for 180 days. You will need to take the number of pages in each textbook and divide it by 180 in order to find out how many pages need to be covered in one day. For example, if your science book is 360 pages, you will need to cover 2 pages per day in order to complete the book by the end of the year.
When you create your schedule, do so with your child in mind. If your child is a morning person, start class at 8:00 a.m. If your child is more alert in the afternoon, begin class at 1:00 p.m. You should have 45 minutes allotted for each subject.
Find out the rest of your state's requirements when it comes to homeschooling. All of the states are different. For example New Jersey is a liberal homeschooling state that only requires that you teach the history of New Jersey to your child. Vermont, on the other hand has more strict rules. Parents must give notification to the local public school of intent to homeschool. They must also have their curriculum approved, and take their children for testing. Home evaluations may also be required. A quick Internet search will reveal your state's requirements.
Give your child a choice of electives. You may have P.E. three times per week, art one day per week and music another day. You may also want to include a second language elective. If you allow your 7th grader to choose his electives, he will be more likely to do well because it is something he is interested in.
Sign your child up for programs outside of your home. These activities will give your child the social interaction that she needs. If your child likes sports, she can participate in the township's sports programs. Libraries often offer book clubs or writing classes for free. You might want to consider a scouts program.
