Fill out a Notice of Intent to Home Educate form before you begin homeschooling or within 30 days of the start date. Return the signed form to the Guidance Services and Home Education department of the superintendent's office at the address listed on the form.
Obtain the curriculum. You can purchase the curriculum from vendors or teaching supply stores. Local libraries have many educational resources available for borrowing.
Maintain a portfolio of your child's work. The Homeschool Legal Defense Association recommends including work samples, writing samples, titles of reading materials used and a list of any educational activities. A Florida school superintendent can inspect the portfolio with 15 days written notice. Keep your portfolio for 2 years.
Submit your child for a yearly evaluation to determine academic progress. You can choose to either take your child to a local public school to take the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test or any other standardized test, hire a Florida-certified teacher to evaluate your child or have psychologist or school psychologist evaluate your child. Evaluations must be submitted to the superintendent annually.
Join a homeschool group for social interaction and information. Your children can attend field trips, participate in sports and join clubs through the group. You will also benefit from the support a home education group provides while you interact with other parents in Florida who have chosen to home educate their children.
