Research more about the different types of fields within home economics and family consumer science to determine what areas interest you. You can take a basic home economics course, which will focus on how to maintain your house and care for your family. However, it's helpful in the beginning to know if you want to learn more about cooking, sewing, crafting or cleaning before you start a course.
Take a basic home economics course at a local vocational school. Call the schools in your area to see if they offer any home economics courses and make sure you ask for a starter or basic course on the subject. Make sure you find something in your price range that you'll know you'll be comfortable attending. If you want to earn a degree in family and consumer sciences online, continue to Step 3.
