How to Find the Number of a Large Exponent

If you are trying to teach your child how to compute exponents, then you may have an easy time doing so with a number that has an exponent of "2." The math gets more complicated -- and the product becomes much larger -- when you have an exponent of 100 or 1267. Having a scientific calculator makes solving large exponential problems easier.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down your problem on a piece of paper. Start with one number with one large exponent. An example would be "10" with an exponent of "143." This translates to 10 multiplied 143 times.

Visit a free online exponent calculator site or use your own scientific calculator. If you use the exponent calculator, type the base number in the first box, type the exponent in the second box, and press the "Calculate" button.

    • 3

Press the base number, followed by the carat symbol (^) on your scientific calculator screen. Then press the exponent number and "Enter" to get your answer.
