King Tut's death mask was placed over his head after his death. The blue and gold countenance can be replicated using a plastic milk jug, paper plates, and papier mache. Cut the milk jug in half at the seam and dispose of the side without the handle. Cut three paper plates in half and staple the cut side of one to the bottom of the cut jug. Attach the cut side of a paper plate half to each side of the jug. Staple two of the remaining halves beneath these, so that they overlap a few inches, with the cut sides facing outward. Cover the jug and plates, both front and back, with papier mache strips. Lay the mask aside to dry, then spray with gold paint and finish decorating the mask with black and blue tempera paints.
Ancient Egyptians used canopic jars to store the organs removed from a body before mummification. To make your own canopic jar crafts, begin by cleaning ice cream or yogurt containers. Draw some hieroglyphs on pieces of paper and wrap the paper around the containers, securing with spray adhesive. Paint the lids of the containers with tan tempera paint. Shape the heads that will sit on top of the jars using air-drying clay. Once the clay is dry, attach them to the lids with spray adhesive and paint them with tempera paint.
The falcon collar was found around the neck of Tutankhamen’s mummy. It is made of gold and shaped to resemble the god Horus, who symbolizes kinghood. To make a replica of the falcon collar, cut a paper plate into a crescent moon shape, with the tips of the crescent almost touching. Cut the falcon's head and feet from the piece of the plate that was cut away and glue them to the widest part of the crescent, with the head pointing toward the middle and the feet pointing outward. When the glue is dry, paint the whole piece gold.
A sarcophagus is a receptacle ancient Egyptians used to house mummified corpses. They were brightly and elaborately decorated with hieroglyphics and the likeness of the person contained within. Egyptians used stone, wood and sometimes gold to make their sarcophagi, but you can make a sarcophagus with a cardboard box. Spray the outside of the box with the color of the material you would like the cardboard to resemble. Paint hieroglyphics and pictures that resemble ancient Egyptian art on the box. To finish, paint the face and bodily outline of a person on the top of the box
