Easy Nature Crafts for Kids

Getting kids excited about nature is as easy as finding ways to create nature crafts from items found around the house. Take a nature walk and collect colorful and interesting items in the backyard or around the neighborhood to help make items that represent the beauty of nature all around.
  1. Pod Mouse

    • This pod mouse described on the Kaboose website can be made quickly with few supplies. Find a spiky pod that has fallen from an outside tree such as a sweet gum and an acorn. You will also need tacky glue, two small brown pom poms, two googly eyes, dried pine needles and a slice off of a dead tree branch to be used as a base. Glue the spiky pod to the base with the stem sticking out the back to form the tail of the mouse. Glue the acorn to the front of the pod for the mouse’s head and add the dried pine needles for whiskers. Glue on googly eyes and pop poms for the ears to finish it off. The finished mouse can be used as a desk accessory or table decoration.

    Ladybug Rocks

    • This craft from the Kaboose website uses a rock from the backyard and paint. Find a rock that is round and fairly flat. Wash off the rock and paint it red using tempera paint. Once it is dry, paint a black line down the center. Paint a small black half circle on the front. On either side of the line, paint black spots to finish the ladybug.

    Coffee Filter Bouquet

    • The Family Corner website explains how to make a flower bouquet from coffee filters. Paint a handful of coffee filters using yellow watercolor. Cut them into flower shapes after they have dried. Attach a green pipe cleaner to each. Connect all of the flowers using a ribbon to complete the bouquet.
