Use handprints to create a rainbow on a birthday board. Give the children colored construction paper and have them trace their hands on the paper. Cut out the hands and arrange them on the board in the shape of a rainbow. Use a marker to write each child’s name and birthday. Write “Let’s have a hand for all the birthdays” across the top of the board. Alternatively, allow the children to create the rainbow using paint instead of construction paper. Paint each child’s hands and have them create a rainbow arch of colors. Use paint pens to write the birthdays on the hands.
Cover the board with black butcher paper and use chalk to draw a large rainbow on the board. Write the birthdays in chalk all around the rainbow in different colors.
Another idea is to write each child’s name and birthday, then draw a rainbow shape around the name and birthday using bright colors of chalk.
You can also draw a rainbow with chalk on the black paper. Do not color the rainbow in. Use chalk to write all the names and birthdays inside the rainbow.
Create a rainbow birthday board using bright-colored streamers. Staple each streamer to the board, creating a rainbow of the different colors. Tear the streamers into strips and twist into long, skinny pieces. Use the long skinny pieces to write out the childs' names and birthdays. Draw or print large pots of gold and tape one to the end of each rainbow.
Another idea is to twist the streamers as you put up each layer, to create a 3D effect. You can also print small pots of gold and write the birthday names on each one to attach to the rainbow.
Give each child a large, round coffee filter and have him flatten it. The children can use markers to color the coffee filter. After the children color the coffee filters, have them spray water all over them using a squirt bottle; this will blend the colors together. Tape the rainbow-colored coffee filters all over the birthday board. Write the birthdays in black marker on the coffee filters or all around the outside of the coffee filters.
