Bulletin Board Ideas With Astronauts

Space travel was once an exciting part of our culture. The first trip that led to landing on the moon turned astronauts into heroes. The names John Glenn and Neil Armstrong are as familiar as many U.S. presidents. Even though space travel isn't as widely publicized as it once was, kids are still fascinated with the idea of astronauts and spaceships. Several entertaining bulletin board ideas will help get you started.
  1. Blast Off In a Book

    • Couple your space themed bulletin board with the reading program at your school. Cut out different kinds of spaceships and pictures of famous astronauts. Place them on the bulletin board together, with each astronaut holding the cover of a book in your reading program. Add quotes that the astronauts have stated over their careers about the importance of education or reading. If you can find out the favorite book of each astronaut, add that as part of the luggage in a space ship.

    Alien Encounters

    • Even though some of it has been explored, space remains a grand mystery. We still don't know for certain what exists on Mars or any planet other than our own. To engage your students in the possibilities of life forms that may be living and breathing elsewhere, have students write letters to these aliens. Encourage them to use their imagination. What do the aliens look like? Do they go to school? Do they have pets? Choose a few of the stand out letters and put them on a bulletin board with biographies of different astronauts and quotes about their interest in learning about what exists in space.

What We Learned from the Moon

    • In 1969, one of the most famous astronaut exhibitions to space took place, Apollo 11. Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin departed on this journey with their individual concerns and anticipation. Design a bulletin board that teaches students about these astronauts and what we learned about the moon from their exploration. Use graphic interpretation of the dirt they stepped on and the American flag they left behind. Also include what these three astronauts have been doing since their famous mission.

    Famous First Missions

    • Even though the first landing on the moon is commonly considered when thinking about space missions, many other firsts have also taken place. Some of these celebrated exhibitions include the first orbit around the moon and the first space shuttle launch. Several tragedies have taken place as well in the space program's attempt at these firsts. Highlight these different missions and the astronauts who made them famous, including the ones who gave their lives for their work.
